Over 60 arrested during SAPS Festive Season campaign

The suspects were arrested for offences ranging from possession of dagga, armed robbery, carjacking, housebreaking, theft, and possession of firearms and ammunition without licence

LIMPOPO – Intelligence-driven joint-operations conducted across the province over the past week led to the arrest of more than 60 suspects involved in various illegal activities.

According to a statement issued by LT. Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, 68 suspects aged between 19 and 47 were arrested for offences ranging from possession of dagga, armed robbery, carjacking, housebreaking as well as theft, and possession of firearms and ammunition without licence.

The following items were recovered:

  • 8 x Fire arms.
  • 5 x Rounds of ammunition.
  • 3 x Cars.
  • 15 x Cellphones.
  • 4 x tablets.
  • 101 KG copper cables worth R9000.
  • 1 x Standard Bank Auto Speed-point Machine.
  • 6, 175 kg dagga.
  • Cash.
  • Bank cards.

This effort formed part of the Limpopo police’s Operation Festive Season campaign and was carried out in Groblersdal, Makhado, Mahwelereng, Bela Bela, Polokwane, Seshego, Giyani, Tzaneen and Tubatse in conjunction with Crime Intelligence, detectives, Crime Prevention, FCS, the Provincial Tracking Unit and the TRT. This campaign will continue into the new year and community members are requested to support the police and continue to supply them with reliable information.

Meanwhile in the Tzaneen cluster, a 26-year-old man was arrested by South African Police Services (SAPS) members from Gauteng.

They recovered the following:

  • 3 x R5 rifles.
  • 7 x Magazines for the R5 rifles.
  • 2 x South African National Defence Force (SANDF) bullet proof vests.
  • 1 x SAPS bullet proof vests.
  • 1 x Correctional Services bullet proof vests.
  • 2 x Security company bullet proof vests.
  • 1 x SAPS jersey
  • 1 x Mercedez Benz which was stolen during a hijacking in Kempton Park, Gauteng.
  • Explosives.
  • Copper cables.

The suspects apprehended in both operations will appear before different Magistrate’s Courts soon.
