SAPS to tackle crime head on

Joint sting operations are up and running throughout the province and they will focus on cracking down on crime hotspots

LIMPOPO – Various police and crime prevention units in the province have joined forces to ensure a crime-free festive season.

According to a statement issued by Police Spokesperson, LT. Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, joint sting operations are up and running throughout the province and they will focus on cracking down on crime hotspots.

Ngoepe stated issues the police face include social and domestic crimes that occur in the privacy of a residence which is usually out of reach of conventional policing.

Members of the community are advised to participate in the fight against crime in the following ways:

  • Stop buying stolen goods.
  • Stop hitch-hiking or giving people lifts.
  • Stop abusing liquor.
  • Comply with the liquor act.
  • If you’re going away for the holidays, up the security at your home or ask someone to keep an eye on things while you are away.
  • In town and at shopping centres, park your vehicle in the parking bay and not behind shops.
  • Always lock your vehicle properly and do not leave valuable items such as cellphones, laptops, handbags etc. on car seats.
  • Be careful of bogus police officers.
  • Beware of scams, especially through SMS’s and including jobs-for cash.
  • Take care of your livestock.
