At the head of Waterberg High

Waterberg High School's Acting Head Principal, André Horn, finally takes over the leading role as Head Principal after six years of hard work at this prestigious school.

MOKOPANE – How does it feel to officialy wear the title as Head Principal?

“It is a special honour and privilege for me to take over the headship of my school and to walk in the footsteps of previous heads to assure a bright future for the learners and teachers of Waterberg High. It is also clear that I now have a lot more responsibilities”.

What are your future plans for Waterberg?

“My grand plan with the school currently is to beautify the school and to make it more visitor-friendly. We plan to lay out pavement where the sidewalk in front of the school is currently only land. I also plan to build the school academically and improve the sport.

I am planning to include hockey and archery in the school’s sport activities because we have great interest in that and many people who can help out with the coaching”.

How is it going with the exam that is currently under way?

“So far the learners are doing well and the matriculants are pushing through to the end. I am also very proud of the fact that so far we have no absences or incidents among learners”.

Horn is also a teacher himself and teaches maths to the Gr 12 learners. According to him, the best part of his career definitely has nothing to do with the financial aspect, but the fact that he is still learning something new about new cultures and beliefs every day.

He feels proud every time a parent greets him on the street or when children come back with diplomas and certificates, thanking him for his inspiration.

He also says that vacation is a nice benefit because that way he can relax and rejuvenate.

He gladly thanks the Department of Education and fellow teachers for trusting him in building the school’s future according to the academic results of the past six years.
