Security guards overpowered, robbed at Mokopane Mall

This is the third armed robbery in less than two weeks where residents were overpowered by armed suspects en route to deposit money.

MOKOPANE – Two security guards of PJP Security were targeted by four armed robbers in front of Mokopane Mall this morning (Wednesday) and robbed of an undisclosed amount of money.

Co-owner of PJP Security, Pieter Vorster, confirmed: “The two security guards were on their way to deposit money at the Absa branch in the mall when one of the robbers overpowered one of the guards at the entrance of the mall while the other robber pointed a firearm at the second guard, who was still in the vehicle, demanding money.”

Vorster further said: “The robber grabbed the vehicle’s keys out of the ignition, opened the back door of the vehicle and took a bag of money.”

The four robbers took off in a white golf.

The Mokopane police spokesperson told Bosveld no arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.

Centre Manager of Mokopane Mall, Louis Jordaan, said security measures have been heightened to ensure the safety of shoppers. “Extra security guards have been added to the patrol team and Special Operation Solutions (SOS) will regularly patrol the area. We appeal to all residents to be extra careful when depositing large sums of money and to report any suspicious behaviour.”
