Mud worsens city’s low water reserves

The public are advised to reduce water usage immediately.

POLOKWANE – The situation at Flag Boshielo Dam has deteriorated to such a point that water being pumped to the city had to be stopped due to mud entering the abstraction point, according to a notification from Lepelle Northern Water.

“The Department of Water and Sanitation are currently engaged on the matter and are monitoring illegal abstraction. Water flow should increase later today,” says Municipal Spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo.

The reservoir levels in the city and surrounding areas are currently critically low and high catchment areas will experience shortages should the situation persist.

Reservoir levels:

50 Ml 20%

30 Ml 9%

30 Ml 10%

Potgieter 10%

Watering of gardens is prohibited. Water usage is strictly limited to domestic and animal usage only adds Mothapo.
