Foiled Nirvana robbery: suspects remanded in custody

Four suspects arrested while allegedly on their way to commit an armed robbery in Nirvana appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate's Court yesterday (Monday).

POLOKWANE – The suspects, Phillip Maphepha (25), Jan Mmatli (36), Edward Manaka (35) and Mashilo Mashaba (40), arrested during a SAPS intelligence led operation on the evening of 27 October. They will remain in custody until their next scheduled court date on 8 November said Provincial Police Spokesperson, Lt Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe.

The group were arrested by the Provincial Tracking Unit along Thabo Mbeki street near KFC and the old Standard bank in the Polokwane CBD.

Ngoepe further added that a pump action (Shot gun ) with live ammunition ,9mm pistol with magazine containing live ammunition, cable ties, balaclavas, handgloves and a Toyota Hilux were also seized during the operation.

Police investigations are still continuing.
