Over 400 years behind bars for serial criminal

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Jim Ledwaba, welcomed the heavy sentence given by the Polokwane High Court to Kgabo Jonas Moshabi.

POLOKWANE – Moshabi (44), who hails from Ga-Legodi village in Moletjie, was sentenced to a consolidated jail term of 447 years and 22 life terms for two counts of murder, four counts of attempted murder, 21 counts of rape, 12 counts of housebreaking,  11 counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, four counts of illegal possession of a firearm, and four counts of illegal possession of ammunition, among others.

A total of 65 charges were made against the man who has terrorised the community of Moletjie, near Polokwane, between August 2005 and January 2012.

“Reports show that he roamed the area at night , breaking into houses, raping and robbing his victims… two of the victims, a 16-year-ol girl and a 79 year-old woman were injured and died,” said Ngoepe.

He was also declared unfit to ever own a firearm and will be registered on the sexual offenders registry.

Provincial Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, said: “Let this serve as an example to others that crime does not pay. Criminals will be brought to book and pay dearly for their crimes against society”.
