Fire Brigade under scrutiny

The National Conservative Party (NCP) under the leadership of Provincial Leader, Valerie Byliefeldt, recently handed over a memorandum with concerns regarding the Mogalakwena Fire Department to the Mogalakwena Municipality

MOKOPANE – In the memorandum the NCP refers to an accident that occurred earlier this year on the R101 where two lives were claimed. The memorandum reads as follows: “As a result of that accident, it has been brought to our attention that the Potgietersrus (Mokopane) emergency services were unable to render assistance because of either/and/or: emergency vehicles were not available, emergency equipment was not available, emergency staff was not available. This is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated.”

In the memorandum, the NCP requests that a public demonstration should be held to display emergency vehicles and equipment and to display the physical use of the emergency equipment.

“It would be interesting to know what the level of regional employment equity is and what the competence level of these officers are. Also, please advise what is being done to maintain and increase this level of competence,” reads the memorandum.

Byliefeldt told Bosveld she gave the municipality 15 days to respond to the memorandum.

Bosveld was still awaiting feedback from the municipality at the time of going to print.
