Overspeeding, illegal goods suspect released on bail

A 31 year-old man arrested for possession of illegal cigarettes and contravention of the Road Traffic Act outside Marble Marble Hall last Thursday afternoon has been released on bail.

LIMPOPO – This after the man appeared for the first time before the Groblersdal Magistrate Court on Monday 26 September following his arrest.

The suspect, Christopher Munyaradzi, a Zimbabwean national, was granted R3500 bail. He is expected to reappear before the Marble Hall Magistrate Court on 08 November.

According to police the suspect was arrested on the N11 road outside Marble Hall when traffic police, who were doing point-duty, stopped the vehicle which was driving at a speed of 151km/h on a 120km/h road.

Lt Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Limpopo provincial police spokesperson, said the vehicle he was driving was found full of cigarettes marked ‘Chelsea’ following checks.

“Police were summoned and he was arrested. The estimated value of the cigarettes was R500 000.

He was charged with possession of illegal cigarettes and contravention of the Road Traffic Act, for over-speeding. Police investigations are ongoing,” explained Ngoepe.
