House robberies on the increase

Local resident on high alert after robbery at her home

POLOKWANE –  According to Sector 6 Community Policing Forum (CPF), house robberies are on the increase in the area and local resident Nadia van Rensburg can attest to the claim as she was recently the victim of robbery.
On Monday, 19 September Van Rensburg woke to the sound of her dogs barking and found that some of her belongings were missing.
“My husband investigated and discovered that our garden furniture had been stolen and the thieves gained entry through a hole in the fence,” she said.
She added it was the third time in the space of a month that they found a hole in the fence which they repaired the day after they were found.

“Considering this is the third time this has occurred and they always use the same method; a hole in the fence, it is obvious they have targeted our home. They watch to see how long it takes for us to find the hole and then how soon we fix it. These aren’t petty thieves, they plan their conquests carefully,” Van Rensburg said.
Doornbult and Soetdorings CPF are calling on their residents to join the CPF and report any suspicious people in their area as well as unknown vehicles. “We urge residents to take regular walks on their properties to ensure there are no holes in their fences and if there are ,to close them immediately and inform the CPF,” CPF management said.
Westenburg Police Spokesperson Const. Napure Manamela urged residents to be aware and report all incidents to the police for investigation.
“When crime is not reported there is no way the police will know to sharpen visibility in an area and criminals are left to do as they please. We call on residents to assist the police in preventing crime and to report suspicious people and activities,” Manamela said.
