LIVE UPDATE: Unilim campus suspends all classes indefinitely

Academic activities at the University of Limpopo have been suspended indefinitely and students told to vacate student residences.

LIMPOPO – This according to statement released by Vice Chancellor and Principal of Unilim, Mahlo Mokgalong.

“As a result of protests on campus, students are hereby informed that all academic programmes have been suspended with immediate effect.

“Students are further instructed to vacate student residences by today (Wednesday) 17:00 at the latest.

This decision was taken in interest of the safety and security of students, staff and university property”, concludes the statement.

LIMPOPO – Academic activities at the University of Limpopo have been disrupted due to the fact that students did not arrive for classes today (Wednesday).

LIMPOPO – Six students at University of Limpopo have been arrested  following violent protests on Tuesday night.

Some campus buildings were set alight, including the cafeteria.

According to reports three of the students were charged with public violence and damage to property and will appear in court tomorrow. The last three have since been released.

One of the students who was arrested claimed the university does not have a case against them and that he was arrested wrongfully.

The universities Executive Director of Communications, Marketing and Limpopo Spokesperson Kgalema Mohuba confirmed via twitter that only two students were injured by rubber bullets.

“The situation on the campus is calm this morning and classes will resume at normal,” he adds.
