LIMPOPO – The special task team followed up on a tip-off which led to the arrest of 28-year-old Bethuel Simango, Provincial Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, confirmed.
“He was arrested at his girlfriend’s house in Mphagane village outside Giyani on Sunday (yesterday),” Ngoepe said.
Simango, who faces two counts of attempted murder, housebreaking and theft, and possession of a firearm without a licence will appear before Nkoankoa Magistrate’s Court today (Monday) on the added charge of escaping from lawful custody.
The first two escapees, Ike Julingo Ngobeni (29) and Muye Makgopa (26) were arrested within a day after their escape. They were able to break out by cutting through the mesh wire in the exercise room of the holding cells.
“Through the active support of farmers in the area and community members, Zimbabwean national, Ngobeni, was rearrested in the early hours of Monday morning (29 August) and Makgopa was found and taken into custody later the same day in the Letsitele farming area.
The three escapees were originally arrested for house robbery, rape and attempted murder.
