Stock theft syndicate ‘mastermind’ nabbed

The SAPS Stock Theft Unit has made another breakthrough following the recent arrest of several suspects for stock theft in Mookgophong, Modimolle, Seshego and Polokwane.

LIMPOPO – The unit has made great progress in tracking down and apprehending suspected stock thieves.

According to Provincial Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, 14 heads of cattle and three vehicles – including a truck and trailer used to transport the stolen stock – were recovered during the arrest.

“One of the vehicles was confirmed to be stolen from Honeydew in Gauteng,” he added.

This follows the arrest of a 46-year-old man believed to be the mastermind behind the stock theft syndicate in the province on 15 September – the syndicate has been linked to several incidents of theft since June 2015.

“Seventy-eight heads of cattle were recovered at Tinmyne and along the Mankweng and Polokwane road during the man’s arrest,” said Ngoepe.

He is set to appear before various Magistrate Courts in the province on the charges of stock theft and possession of suspected stolen stock. The six suspects, aged between 29 and 41, will appear before the Mookgophong and Seshego Magistrate’s Courts on charges of stock theft. No court dates have been specified as yet.

Police investigations are underway.
