3 suspected rhino poachers arrested on Bela Bela farm

Members of a joint task team composed of police and farm security officers arrested three suspected rhino poachers after hearing shots coming from the rhino camp.

LIMPOPO – The team reacted swiftly after hearing shots coming from the direction of the farm’s rhino camp in Bela Bela says provincial police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

“On arrival they found two rhino’s that had been shot but not killed. It is believed that the rhinos stormed the suspects chasing them away and in the process damaged one of the firearms,” adds Ngoepe.

The task team members  followed five sets of tracks and arrested the three suspects, aged 32, 33 and 36-years-old.

One rifle and 270 rounds were also recovered he says.

Ngoepe says the suspects are set to appear before the Bela Bela Magistrate’s Court on Monday 12 September.

Police investigations are still continuing.

Meanwhile the investigation into the killing and mutilation of two lions in Marble Hall and Groblersdal earlier this year still continues.
