Kosie’s prayers to be answered

News of Kosie’s accident travelled fast and before long, the Child Medi Organisation opened a bank account and hundreds of concerned citizens across the country made donations to help raise funds to get Kosie a prosthetic hand.

POLOKWANE – Kosie Wessels, the 7-year-old boy who lost his hand in a firework accident last Saturday, has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at his family home in Ladanna after his hand had to be amputated. He was transferred to Mediclinic Limpopo from the Polokwane Provincial Hospital on Monday until he was discharged on Wednesday.

News of Kosie’s accident travelled fast and before long, the Child Medi Organisation opened a bank account and hundreds of concerned citizens across the country made donations to help raise funds to get Kosie a prosthetic hand. Review did a bit of research and found that a prosthetic hand costs between R35 000 and R50 000.

Amor Schoeman, a Child Medi Organisation representative, said they’ve received three quotes from possible candidates to make the hand. “There are a number of factors to consider. It’s not about what is cheapest but what is best for Kosie,’ she said. “The prosthesis needs to bend at the wrist and open and close around certain articles,” she explained.

She further said because Kosie is still growing, frequent alterations will need to be made to the prosthesis and that will cost a lot of money.

“We’re happy to report that all three the candidates offered a considerable discount on their services and we’re truly grateful for that and to those who opened their hearts, and their purses, in support of Kosie,” Schoeman said.

She further said they will buy clothes for Kosie with money from the account they set up for him.

Donations can be still paid into the following account:
