Dedicated line to report human trafficking activities

The line will also provide assistance to people who need to complain or report a human trafficking case.

POLOKWANE – Human trafficking is serious and it is important to create awareness.

On Tuesday, 30 August, the A21 Campaign, who deals with informing the public on human trafficking issues, opened a South African National Human Trafficking Resource Line (SANHTRL). Managed and operated by the A21 Campaign, the resource line will assist in answering questions on human trafficking.

The line will also provide assistance to people who need to complain or report a human trafficking case.

Specialist investigator, Mike Bolhuis, told Review that the line will be open to take calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. “The line will ensure the anonymity of callers in compliance with the SANHTRL’s Confidentiality Policy. Comments, complaints or reports can also be submitted on the website”, he said.

A local police source close to the Hawks told Review that a common misconception people have in the city is that human trafficking does not happen here. I personally have seen cases where young teenage girls were forced to be sex workers, and drugs to be the influencing method to keep the girls going.”the source said.

The source added that further information on pending cases could not be revealed but confirmed that there are investigations underway in regard to human trafficking in Polokwane.
