Young learners learn about fire safety, rescue

The children from Bet-Shalom Christian school were treated to a field trip like no other. They were hosted by the Fire Department on an educational tour.

POLOKWANE – The children from Bet-Shalom Christian school were treated to a field trip like no other. They were hosted by the Fire Department on an educational tour.

According to vice principal Rachelle Els, they have these trips a few times a year as a way of getting the children to learn through experience. “When we have the field trips we usually link them to the theme of the week and this week is occupational week. We brought them to the fire station to give them practical and first hand experience of how fire fighters do their job,” Els explained.

According to firefighter Stanley Mothapo it is extremely important that children know what to do in case of a fire. “We showed them how a real rescue works and what to do in terms of fire prevention.”
