Cricket fields ‘simply too poor to play on’

The condition of the surface is so poor that most matches are now being referred to be played elsewhere.

POLOKWANE – Most provincial cricket games are now been played at Capricorn High School’s cricket fields due to the field and pitch conditions of the Polokwane Cricket Club.

This is according to Limpopo Amateur Cricket Manager Feizal Kimmie who said even though they prefer to play their provincial matches at the Polokwane Cricket Club, this simply is not possible as the field and pitch conditions “are simply too poor to play on”.

Review investigated. Sand pits have found their way onto the fields, ant nests have spiralled out of control, water puddles are found across a large section and foreign grass and weeds have started growing on the pitches.

As one of the oldest cricket clubs in the country, the once well maintained Polokwane Cricket fields are condition-wise in a downward spiral.

Limpopo Amateur Cricket has tried on multiple occasions over the last few years to gain control over the Polokwane Cricket Club, but is yet to receive comment from the municipality, according to Kimmie.

The municipality had after a few days not supplied comment in this regard.
