My artistic side comes out to play when I cook – Mpho

Self-proclaimed foodie, Mpho Mukwevho, talks to BONUS about her passion for food and shares some of her trusted cooking tips.

POLOKWANE – Mpho says she loves making food and decided to take her passion serious and enrolled for a cooking course just to make sure she is well equipped to pursue her passion.”I wanted to enhance my skills and learn more valuable cooking techniques. I learned so many things about cooking which enables me to prepare delicious dishes,” she explains. The 24-year-old who is based in Polokwane says she cooks every day and says she enjoys a home cooked meal more than eating out.

“I cook with a passion and I always aim for a tasty outcome. I put in all my knowledge and abilities when I cook. For me, making food is more than just simply cooking, it is a conduit for me to let my artistic side come out to play.”

Along with preparing food that is a delight for the taste buds, Mpho says she loves adding bright colours to her dishes to make them a treat for the eyes as well. She especially loves cooking healthy meals for her family and she says she is a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to food.

“I insist on making and eating healthy meals. I love veggies and my food is either grilled or boiled to help retain the flavour along with making it healthier,” she explains. She discovered a deeper love for food when she worked in a restaurant where she started to learn several tricks of the trade in preparing delicious and healthy meals. She says one of the best feelings is seeing someone completely satisfied and delighted with her cooking. “It is amazing how food brings everyone together. I enjoy cooking traditional meals and adding a modern touch to the dishes. I would like to venture into catering someday and open my own restaurant.”
