Trust a worthy cause

Trust Sebola was abandoned by his family at  a very young age and left to beg on the street for food, money and clothes, he has put his trust in the generosity of others to survive.

POLOKWANE – He sustained an injury to his head and says the scar has made him an outcast in the community. Part of his skull was removed in an operation and the dent in his head attracts odd looks from onlookers.

“It hurts on days when it is cold but I have to push on and sell my water. It keeps me busy and out of trouble and I meet so many new people everyday,” he says. Trust makes a living selling water to motorists in the city.

“I recently moved from Mogwadi, my home town, to Endo in Polokwane. I try to contact my family every once in a while but they don’t want anything to do with me. They abandoned me and I have been left to fend for myself for so long, I am used to their rejection,” he tells BONUS.

He says it was only recently that a local water company took pity on him and offered him a job. You will find him on the corner of Landdros Mare Street and Potgieter Avenue, selling bottles of water. “I use the money to pay rent. I live in a small shack in Endo. It is not much, but it’s my own. I don’t have access to water or electricity but it’s home.”

Trust depends on donations for clothes. Despite his struggles, he is a cheerful man, happy to have a job. “It gives my life purpose. Don’t drive around thristy. I may not have much but what I can give you will quench your thirst”.
