A well-loved friend to children and parents alike

Being a security guard at a school is like being a part of a family says Noordskool’s security guard, Mokhadi Leshaba.

POLOKWANE – Noordskool’s security guard, Mokhadi Leshaba started working at the school over 10 years ago when she received a transfer to the school.

“Everyone working at the school, the parents and the children have all welcomed and accepted me as part of their family,” Leshaba says with a broad smile.

“Being a guard at a school means that you get to work closely with everyone and you grow very fond of everyone, especially the children. You get to know them and their parents and they feel like your own children.”

Mokhadi explains she has had the opportunity to see many learners grow over the years, from the start of their Gr R year to their final year in Gr 7 before heading off to high school.

“The parents and children become your close friends and they often surprise me on special days like my birthday with presents and well wishes.”

She says there may be people who think being a security guard at a school is not very important, but she has encountered her fair share of issues and that her first priority is always the safety of the children.

As a mother of two children and a grandmother of two herself, Mokhadi says she advises all parents to grow a strong and healthy relationship with their children and to teach them to work hard and help them believe they can accomplish anything they set their minds to.

She says that besides from being at work only for half of the day, she also has the advantage of having school holidays to spend with her own children and grandchildren at home.

“I love making food and as a grandmother you need to know when and how to make something sweet as a treat for your grandchildren,” she says.

Mokhadi takes pride in her appearance as she says she is the face of the school and she makes a point of always looking her best and being friendly to everyone she meets.
