Mokgohloa, Muller to take top judicial seats at High Court

The announcement was made last Wednesday by President Jacob Zuma who appointed several judges to the Supreme Court of Appeal and various high courts to fill vacancies.

POLOKWANE – Judge Fikile Mokgohloa has been appointed Deputy Judge President of the Limpopo division of the High Court in Polokwane.

Mokgohloa, who took part in a lengthy and grilling interview with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in April, will take her position on 1 July after being recommended for the position. She is known for her impeccable work ethic and has strong views regarding people’s responsibilities when it comes to upholding the law. Mokgohloa has now become the sixth woman in a leadership position in the judiciary out of a total of 23.

Joining Mokgohloa at the High Court will be Advocate Gerrit Cornelius Muller who has been appointed as a Judge of the Limpopo Division of the High Court with effect from 1 July.

Muller holds an LLB and an LLD in international law. He has worked as a state advocate, an additional magistrate, and joined the Bar in 1991. Muller was also interviewed by the JSC where he said his appointment to the Limpopo High Court, as a white male, would ensure representation on the bench.

“President Zuma wishes them well in their new responsibilities,” said the Presidency in a statement attributed to Dr Bongani Ngqulunga.
