Lions parts: suspects appear before court

The 3 suspects arrested for the sale of lion parts appeared before the Giyani Magistrate's Court on the charge of illegal possession of protected species on Tuesday.

LIMPOPO – The suspects, Incase Ngobeni, Samson Maswanganyi and Jeremais Macheke, were arrested on Tuesday during a joint police operation after information was received about the suspects attempting to sell lion heads and paws on the streets.

The provincial  Stock Theft Unit attached to the Rhino Task Team and members from SanParks recovered the heads of two lions as well as 8 paws during the operation said provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.

The case was remanded to 20 June for further investigation. The suspects will remain in custody concluded Otto.
