3 nabbed for sale of lion parts

Three suspects have been arrested and lion heads and paws recovered during a joint police operation between Limpopo Stock Theft Unit attached to the Rhino Task Team and members from SanParks, say the police.

LIMPOPO – The suspects, all from Mozambique, were arrested after information was received about the suspects attempting to sell the heads and paws, on Tuesday,” said provincial police spokesperson, Col Lt Ronel Otto.

“The heads of two lions as well as 8 paws were recovered during the operation.”

Investigations to link this arrest to the poisoning of two female white lions at Stockpoort, Lephalale is still ongoing added Otto.

The suspects will appear in the Giyani Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Thursday) on charges of illegal possession of protected species.
