Rugby SA banned from hosting international events
SA Sport Minister, Fikile Mbalulu, has announced a decision to ban four sporting federations from hosting any major international events in South Africa due to their failure to meet “transformation targets”.
POLOKWANE -These are Athletics SA, Cricket SA, Netball SA and the SA Rugby Union (Saru).
Mbalula spoke during the announcement of the results of the third Eminent Persons Group (EPG) on Transformation in Sport Report for 2014/2015.
“I have therefore resolved to revoke the federations’ privileges to host and bid for major and mega international tournaments in South Africa with immediate effect,” Mabalula said.
“I will review this decision when considering the results of the 2016/2017 Transformation Barometer.”
