Donating blood can be ‘awesomely’ rewarding

During a recent blood drive, Issac Mothapo, a registered nurse with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), explained to Review some of these rewards.

POLOKWANE – The first thought that comes to mind when one donates blood is that you are donating to help save someone’s life, but donating blood holds other benefits for the donor.

During a recent blood drive at Pam Golding properties and other establishments in their vicinity, Issac Mothapo, a registered nurse with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), explained to Review some of these benefits…

According to him, first time donors receive a one-of-a-kind certificate as a welcoming gift and for bragging rights that they were “brave” enough to donate blood.

“When you donate blood for the second time, you get a key ring that shows what blood type you are. If you donate for the 25th time, you get a key ring for the amount of times you have donated blood,” Mothapo explained.

Donors can also look forward to the following Milestone Acknowledgements.

Marieta Pretorius says it is an awesome thing to have

Marieta Pretorius is a third time blood donor who says she loves her blood type key ring. “As a donor it helps me understand what blood type I am. If I’m in an accident, for instance, and I’m unconscious and for whatever reason I have to get a blood transfusion, paramedics or hospital staff can know what my blood type is by looking at my key ring. I think it is an awesome thing to have,” Pretorius explained.
