Man dies after Haenertsburg pub assault

A 35-year-old Polokwane resident has died after he succumbed to his injuries after he was assaulted

 

POLOKWANE – Paul Geldenhuys was recently assaulted at a pub in Haenertsburg.

According to a friend of the family, the father of two was with friends when a group of men believed to be between the ages of 20 and 30 picked a fight with them.

“He was assaulted together with some of his friends, who tried to protect him from the beating,” said the family friend.

According to her, Geldenhuys suffered severe injuries to his face and ribs, resulting in an injury to one of his lungs.

“He was admitted to hospital and passed away from what is believed to be the result of his injuries.”

He leaves behind his two boys, Brendon and Zander, and his parents Soon and Ina Geldenhuys.

“Funeral arrangements have not been made yet.”

Provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronél Otto, could not confirm the incident, and said she would provide more information soon.

She however said there was an investigation into an assault case, according to her knowledge, but was not aware if the case had been changed to murder following Geldenguys’ death.
