Mayor’s Easter message

"Easter celebrations reflect on peace and forgiveness and provide a wonderful opportunity to bring families and friends together and even attend church services.

“It is time for friends and family to reunite and engage in celebrations for renewal, worship and spiritual revival,” says Polokwane Mayor, Thembi Nkadimeng.

Nkadimeng added that Easter weekend comes at a time when the nations are fresh on the heels of observing the anti-racism week. I take this opportunity to urge the people of Polokwane to embrace the spirit of forgiveness and unity towards building a society that is free of racism. Let us treat one another equally regardless of race, colour or our religious beliefs. Our well wishes go to the thousands of visitors who will be descending on the city of Polokwane. We thank them for choosing to spend their quality family time in the City of Stars. We wish all members of our communities who will be travelling to various places of worship during the weekend to travel safe and we ask them to pray for the country and the city. We ask them to pray for peace, unity and prosperity.” She urged all motorists to obey the rules of the road and to be patient and alert at all times.

“Obeying the road traffic laws can go a long way in ensuring your own safety and that of the other road users. As citizens, let us help one another to fight the problem of drug and alcohol abuse as it is one of the primary causes of accidents and fatalities on our roads affecting pedestrians as well.

“Our message is a stern one, Don’t Drink and Drive! We assure you that together with the provincial department we have deployed law enforcement agents to ensure your safety on our roads.

“On behalf of Council, I wish everyone a wonderful, happy and safe Easter and Passover weekend. May this time of renewal invigorate your spirit and strengthen your faith. Arrive Alive!” Nkadimeng said.
