‘These men belong behind bars’

"No further progress has been made in the Anisah Moosa abduction case and the police are still investigating," said Moosa family's spokesperson, anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee.

POLOKWANE – 36-year-old Anisah Moosa was abducted in front of a family member’s house in Nirvana and held captive for three days last week. The kidnappers demanded R3 million ransom from her family.

“Anisah was not physically hurt by her captors and is doing fine, under the circumstances,” says Abramjee.

Her ordeal started just after 20:00 last Tuesday shortly after her arrival at her uncle’s home.

“They (her family) had just opened the gate for her when three armed men appeared. They tried to push her onto the backseat of her Audi A4 and a relative, Zainub, held onto her and tried to pull her away to prevent them driving off with her, but they sped off with her in the car,” Abramjee said.

About half an hour after the abduction took place, a ransom phone call was made to the family.

The police then took charge of the situation and communication continued between the family and the abductors. It was agreed the ransom money would be handed over last Thursday evening.

Abramjee said three men arrived in a silver VW Polo and had a gun pointed at Moosa’s head. When they advanced to where the money was, they noticed the police’s presence and a shootout ensued during which three police officers sustained minor injuries.

Moosa was freed and the abductors fled on foot.

“We urge anyone with information to come forward, these men are dangerous and belong behind bars” – Abramjee

According to a statement issued by the Hawks in Limpopo, the money was to be exchanged at a location between Polokwane and Lebowakgomo, but the agreed location was changed to a spot at Ga-Chuene near Lebowagomo when the family was on the way to the drop-off point.

Hawks Limpopo Spokesperson, Lt Matimba Maluleke, told Review the injured police officers are recovering and no arrests have been made as yet. He confirmed that the police are looking for three armed men.

He said the suspects were last seen in the Lebowagomo area. Maluleke asked that anyone with information contact their nearest police station. “People should not confront these men as they are armed and dangerous,” he warned.
