UPDATE: Hit-and-run suspect out on bail

The 23-year-old motorist suspected of knocking down Shannon Sacco and leaving the scene on March 15, appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court last Friday.

POLOKWANE – Sacco, a gr. 11-learner at Westenburg Secondary School in Ben Harris street was on her way home when she was hit by the vehicle. According to eye-witness the suspect was traveling at a high speed.

Capt Mohlaka Mashiane, a Westenburg police spokesperson, previously said she was rushed to the nearest hospital with critical injuries.

She succumbed to her injuries later that same day.

The suspect is facing the charge of culpable homicide and was released on R1500 bail. The case has been postponed for further investigation.

Shannon was buried Monday morning and leaves behind her parents, two brothers, sister, friends and family.
