‘Prepare for even more water woes in future’

Former superintendent in the water and sanitation unit, Johan Badenhorst predicts that the city's water woes will only worsen.

POLOKWANE – During a recent meeting at Oosskool, between residents and Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng about the water shortage, Badenhorst invited the municipality to take advantage of his and others’ vast knowledge of the city’s water infrastructure and in so doing perhaps find a workable solution to the problem.

Badenhorst worked for the city’s municipality for 30 years and was a superintendent in the water and sanitation unit.

He predicted that in a year’s time the water situation will be even more dire and the municipality will still be unable to give satisfactory answers.

Review asked him, “is it too late to remedy the situation?

Badenhorst answer; “even if the municipality takes immediate remedial action something can be done but the system will take many years to repair.

“Even if the municipality starts today, they will still not have any positive results for years to come,” Badenhorst said.

Badenhorst further mentioned that since the meeting, which took place some three weeks ago, the municipality has not contacted him, he told Review.

Municipal Spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene, said the municipality may consult with Badenhorst and his counterparts some time in the future.

He shares his expert opinion on water issues which the municipality was unable to give answers to during the meeting. Read the full story in Review Newspaper.
