Local architect helps out the Adams family

Jacky Phaleng, an architect who lives in Westenburg, heard about the Adams family's problem and offered to help the family with the building plans free of charge.

POLOKWANE – Jacky Phaleng, an architect who lives in Westenburg, heard about the Adams family’s problem and offered to help the family with the building plans free of charge.

The Adams family received building materials from people in the community to help rebuild their home after it burnt down on 8 January, but the municipality put the building on hold and requested a structural engineer report before any construction could go ahead. The report would have cost the family over R7 000 but Alex Marais from Aurecon Structural Engineers availed his services to the family free of charge and the report was submitted to the municipality. The report revealed that the Adams home is not safe and that it must be demolished and rebuilt. The family, with the help of the Westenburg Disaster Management Committee and the community, started to demolish the house over the past weekend.

“I want to say thank you to each and every person who is helping me get back on my feet. The community, different churches and individuals who have made a donation, and also given their time and hands to help. I really appreciate it. I must say, God is good to me. My prayer is for everything to be approved so that we can start building my house. I cannot wait to sleep in my own home again,” Adams said.

The municipality gave the green light for construction work to continue on Christina Adams’ house last week.
