CDM mayor interacts with stakeholders

Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) culminated the year in style by inviting stakeholders to an interactive cocktail session held at African Airport Lodge last Wednesday evening.

POLOKWANE – Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) culminated the year in style by inviting stakeholders to an interactive cocktail session held at African Airport Lodge last Wednesday evening.

The evening was not just about long speeches but also to celebrate and reflect on the year. CDM Mayor, Gilbert Kganyago, said he believes they did their best as council to implement the vision and mission of the district and transform Capricorn into a district that is developmental in character, spatially integrated, liveable, sustainable and with inclusive economic growth.

“Yes, we missed out on some opportunities but we certainly scored on some fronts, particularly in areas of our core business and governance. It was therefore not by accident that we managed to please the Auditor-General (AG) and for that he gave us an unqualified audit finding for a second year in succession. This was not an easy feat. An unqualified audit is a result of extensive process and by definition, not just a finger-click away. Several cross-cutting and transversal challenges had to be surmounted and present credible financial statements to the AG that represent the state of affairs in that reporting period,” he explained.

An opinion is said to be unqualified or clean when the AG concludes that the financial statements give a true and fair view in accordance with the financial reporting framework used for the preparation and presentation of the financial statements.

He also congratulated the Molemole and Polokwane municipalities for achieving unqualified audit opinion as well. This means three out of six municipalities in the district achieved unqualified audits. “Unqualified audit opinions speak volumes about our commitment to compliance with the financial and audit management systems and processes. Our aim now is to ensure that we channel the same energy and commitment into getting performance audit right so we can connect it to accelerated and tangible service provision to the rural and poor communities in our district,” he added.

He reminded the politicians, councillors and stakeholders that as they celebrate, they must do so mindful of the millions of people in the district whose plight and hope for a better life are undoubtedly set on the municipality for a change in their lives.

“This we can achieve if we continue working in the spirit of cooperative governance, for without partnership and working together, such a vision would remain a distant dream,” he concluded.

The attendees enjoyed the glamorous evening with good music, interaction and food. The Morning Breeze Band entertained the people.
