Provincial hospital praised for going extra mile

When Stefnie Phillipson unexpectedly had to rush to hospital after her blood pressure was very high, she did not know what to expect from the provincial hospitals.

LOUIS TRICHARDT – When Stefnie Phillipson unexpectedly had to rush to hospital after her blood pressure was very high, she did not know what to expect from the provincial hospitals.

“On 2 November my blood pressure was very high and I was feeling unwell so I went to the Louis Trichardt Memorial hospital to get it checked out.

“Dr Smart saw me and she wasn’t happy with my Electrocardiogram (ECG) test results and she phoned Dr Marango at the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital who asked that I should go there the same day,” Phillipson says.

Phillipson was then transported via ambulance to the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital where she was met by personnel from casualties who immediately assisted her and ran another ECG test.

“The whole trip to the hospital I was worried on how I would be treated as one often hears of the horrible way patients are treated and the horrible state the hospital is in, but these fears were eased the moment the personnel met me when I arrived.

“I received outstanding treatment from the personnel, the ones at casualties and the ones in the ward. After Dr Marango received the results of my ECG, he explained his concerns to me and I found it easy to understand. Everything was clean and neat, the food was also very tasty. I once also mentioned that I was a bit cold and the personnel immediately brought me an extra blanket and even an extra pillow.”

Phillipson contacted Review to share her experience at the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital. She said because of her circumstances she did not have to pay for the transport costs or any medical costs.

“I would like to thank everyone at the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital for the great treatment I received, you made me feel welcome and assured of the care I will receive. I want to say you are an excellent hospital with excellent service.

“I am a strong believer that you are treated the way you treat others and this was evident with the hospital personnel. I was friendly to them and I was in return treated with friendliness. People should look past the ugliness they read about or hear and form their own unbiased opinions about someone and their treatment of you.

“Open your eyes and notice the beauty and kindness in the world, don’t always keep staring at the negatives,” Phillipson concluded.
