Bowls champs crowned at Limpopo Singles

Bowlers from all five districts in Limpopo gathered at the Polokwane Bowls Club to battle it out during the Limpopo Singles Championship played last Saturday and Sunday

POLOKWANE – Bowlers from all five districts in Limpopo gathered at the Polokwane Bowls Club to battle it out during the Limpopo Singles Championship played last Saturday and Sunday in a round robbin format.

The challenge had four categories:

Senior men, senior women, open ladies and open men.

Eight players in each class had to accumulate as many points as possible to be crowned the champion.

Winners in each category:

Peet Jordaan from Tzaneen Bowls Club – senior men’s title

Dessie de Beer from Mokopane – senior women’s title.

Christo van der Merwe of Team Limpopo – open men’s tournament winner

Hettie Rossouw of Team Bela-Bela – open women’s tournament title.

Van der Merwe emphasised that the club still needs young players to join the sport and take it to greater heights.

He urged people to do away with the myth that bowling is only for old people because it is simply not true. “Anyone can play this sport. This is a family sport, which is why we advise young people to please join in.”
