Residents on festive spirit

Review spoke to several residents to find out what they had to say about the upcoming festive season and how they get into the festive spirit.

POLOKWANE – The festive season is synonymous with family, presents, love and joy.

With many stores and shopping malls already decorated for the festive season, and Christmas adverts and jingles being played all around, one is constantly reminded Christmas is only a few weeks away.

Review spoke to several residents to find out what they had to say about the upcoming festive season and how they get into the festive spirit.

Jeltje Erasmus feels one’s surroundings gets you in the right spirit. “If you see all the decorations around town and hear the jingles, you feel the vibe and that gets you in the festive mood,” she explains.

Jeltje and her family decorate their home, and they make cards and other personalised goodies to get fully into the spirit of the festive season.

Sammy Jnr Nkoana says his festive spirit comes from spending time with his family and friends. He says his family will also travel to Polokwane for the holidays and he is definitely looking forward to it.

Tersia Mokonyama gets her holidays started by going shopping and buying new clothes to wear over the festive period. “I also spend time with my family, it’s like a reunion over Christmas,” she adds.

Nandi Ntswabule and her husband don’t go all out over the Christmas period, however, they do celebrate and spend time with their family and buy presents for the children.

For others, the festive season is being more financially savvy as opposed to the usual family bonding.

May Motubatse says seeing all the Christmas decorations stress her out because it is a constant reminder to save money. “The festive season is about giving, and to give, you must have money, so I must start saving now.”

Jenny Mocke says she gets into the festive spirit by knowing Jesus Christ.

“That is what it is all about after all,” she states. Jenny also decorates her home and spends this special time with her family spreading love and joy around them.
