The provincial KFC Mini-Cricket Festival took place at Genl Piet Joubert School on Saturday, 19 September.

POLOKWANE – The provincial KFC Mini-Cricket Festival took place at Genl Piet Joubert School on Saturday, 19 September, with hundreds of children between the ages of four and six years coming to enjoy the day.

The KFC Mini-Cricket Festival is sponsored by KFC Polokwane and Limpopo Impala Cricket to give young children an introduction to the sport and teach them the basics of cricket. Children from schools all over Limpopo streamed into the city to be part of the event. The event was attended by over 900 children

Each child had a chance to bat, bowl and field. The day was filled with laughter and excitement.

The event develops self-confidence, physical exercise and is enjoyable fun for each and every child, according to Rejoice Nthabiseng Phosa, KFC Mini-Cricket coordinator.

“Even the parents joined in on the fun as they helped their children on the field by giving them cricket advice.”

Children who participated and parents who helped with the coaching received KFC shirts and medals.

Besides the cricket, there were other fun activities such as a jumping castle and games of catch.

“The day was a huge success, and we got a five out of five rating for the event from Cricket South Africa. We are confident next year will be even more successful,” Phosa concluded.
