Case against suspected rhino poachers postponed

The two suspects appeared in the Polokwane Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

LIMPOPO – The two suspects arrested for suspected rhino poaching on the R101 between Polokwane and Mokopane on Sunday evening appeared in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Andries Mathebula (42) and  Shadrack Zitha (37) appeared on the charges of possession of illegal fire arms and ammunition and conspiracy to commit rhino poaching,” says provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.

They were arrested on Sunday after police received a tip-off.

“An alert for the suspects vehicle was sent out and the vehicle was spotted by the provincial rhino task team and was forced off the road,” said Otto previously.

The case has been postponed to 1 October for the formal bail application.

The suspects will remain in custody concludes Otto.
