Man arrested for illegal cigarettes

POLOKWANE – A 30-year-old man was arrested in Mogwadi on Thursday after he was found in possession of illegal cigarettes to the value of R650 000.

According to provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto, the suspect was arrested after he attempted to flee from traffic officers during a routine operation along the road.

“A chase ensued and police assistance was called in.

The suspect later abandoned his vehicle next to the road and attempted to flee on foot, but was soon traced and arrested,” said Otto.

He is due to appear in the Polokwane magistrate’s court today, she added.
