POLOKWANE – A case of common assault was opened against Amukelani Rikhotso, the truck driver accused of causing the crash that killed former public service and administration minister, Collins Chabane and his two bodyguards.

Rikhotso appeared in the Polokwane magistrate’s court today on three charges of culpable homicide. The case was postponed to September 25.

While leaving court today, he allegedly assaulted an SABC cameraman by smashing his fists into the camera, which caused slight injuries to the cameraman’s face.

Provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto, said a case of common assault was opened at the Polokwane police station.

“The case will be investigated and on completion send to the office of the director of public prosecutions for a final decision,” said Otto.
