Ivanplats empowers elderly

IVANPLATS facilitated a knitting project in three communities as part of their tribute to Mandela Day on July 18.

MOKOPANE- IVANPLATS facilitated a knitting project in three communities as part of their tribute to Mandela Day on July 18.

The knitting project started when a group of 40 grandmothers decided they had too much time on their hands and needed something to do to keep them busy. Ivanplats donated wool and knitting needles to help the grandmothers of Magongoa work their knitting magic.”There is great talent among the elderly in Mokopane,” an Ivanplats employee said.

Twelve villagers between the age of 85 and 105 years were selected by the Magongoa-grannies to each receive a knitted blanket as well as a scarf, beanie and winter socks to fight the cold.

This group’s goodwill did not end there as they also identified 48 vulnerable primary school children who were invited for a special function last Thursday.

The group of children were welcomed with singing and dancing and they shared a delicious meal with the kind group of women. Each child present also boasted with a scarf and beanie each. As a wise man once said: “When you open your heart to giving, angels fly to your door”. Open your eyes when you are in the area – Magongoa’s angels are all around.
