Patel is out on R250 000 bail and his bail conditions require that he reported to the Westenburg police station three times a week.

It was during his visit to the police station that he was arrested for the second murder.

Patel appeared before the Polokwane magistrate’s court on Monday and the case was postponed to Tuesday for a bail application.

He remains in police custody.

“On January 19 the police came to my house in the early hours of the morning to tell me that my son was assaulted and died in hospital.

“The following day Fanie’s father and I went to identify him, and I could not belief what I saw. My son was hit over the head and had an open wound on the left side of his head and his one leg was broken.

“I did not understand how someone could hurt my child like that,” Josephine said.

She added that the person who assaulted her son left him in the rain for dead and to date she does not have answers why he was assaulted.

“The police never arrested anyone for my son’s murder and I still don’t know why my son was killed in this way.

“I live with the pain every day. Fanie was no angel, but to be hit like that and than be left and not to call the police or an ambulance is not human.

“There are days that I miss my son so much that I find myself crying uncontrollably.

“If only I knew why he was killed,” Josephine said.

In court, Patel’s attorney, Tumi Mokwena, said that his client’s brother was arrested in 2013 for the Adams murder, but the case was withdrawn due to a lack of evidence.

According to Josephine, the only time she heard from the police was when they told her about her son’s death and the day she had to go and identify his body.

“Over the years I never heard from the police again and to date I don’t even know who the investigating officer is.

“The police did not even tell me that someone was arrested in this case, I had to hear the news from someone who lives not far from me who read it in the newspaper.

“I also heard on the radio that he appeared in court,” she stated.

Col Ronel Otto, provincial police spokesperson, said the police will look into these allegations.
