His love for photography reaches new planes

Lehumo Mabitsela of Mankweng is a model airplane pilot and he says he has developed a love for flying model airplanes.

POLOKWANE – Lehumo Mabitsela of Mankweng is a model airplane pilot and he says he has developed a love for flying model airplanes.

Mabitsela was among the pilots who attended the new pilot training at Area 51 Flying Club in Dalmada on Saturday, which aimed to educate model airplane pilots about the new regulations that will be implemented on July 1.

He is the owner of Paparazzi Productions, which specialises in photography and videos.

“I bought this machine to do aerial photography, but I am going to struggle since the new law states that we should not use the airplanes for commercial purposes, only as a hobby.

“I work closely with community policing forums when they want to trace drug dealers, so the new law will make things challenging for me,” said Mabitsela.

“I also use the model airplane to take videos and photographs at various events and my clients are always happy with the product.”

He said although the model airplanes were very expensive, they delivered good quality pictures and videos.

“This is not a familiar sport in black communities and I want to introduce it to communities. People should do away with the myth that certain sporting codes are only meant for white people. I joined the sport in February and I am enjoying it,” he said.

Mabitsela said he started with model race cars and soon fell in love with airplanes.
