Heated swimming pool on the cards for the city’s swimming enthusiasts

A decision was taken at a recent municipal council meeting that the city's public swimming pool would be reopened once all the maintenance and the work to heat the pool was done, even if the new swimming season had not yet started.

POLOKWANE – A decision was taken at a recent municipal council meeting that the city’s public swimming pool would be reopened once all the maintenance and the work to heat the pool was done, even if the new swimming season had not yet started.

The swimming pool remained closed during the whole season because it was leaking and the scum channels and expansion joints were damaged and needed to be fixed. The main pool and scum channels were repaired before the end of January, but due to other maintenance work still needing to be done, the decision was made to delay the opening of the pool.

It was decided that as soon as all maintenance was completed, the swimming pool would be reopened. Along with the standard maintenance, the municipality decided to ensure that one of the swimming pools were heated.

According to the report tabled before council, no one qualified in terms of the supply chain policy requirements to fix the expansion joints and the tender was re-advertised. Revenue collected for the two months the pool would have been open, would not have been worth the expense and water used to open the pool for this short period. A date for the reopening of the pool was not decided on.
