Lace up for Mayoral Road Race

THE third annual Mayoral Road Race is just around the corner.

POLOKWANE – THE third annual Mayoral Road Race is just around the corner.

With that in mind, the Polokwane Municipality will host cluster races to encourage participation in road running and healthy living in line with the municipality’s smart living goals

The cluster races will also serve as build up races to the main race on May 16.

The road races are also aimed at showcasing Polokwane as the sporting hub of Limpopo and will be in collaboration with local athletic clubs.

Cluster races – all races start at 07:00:

• Saturday, February 27 in Solomondale at the Bana ba Thari School in the Sebayeng and Dikgale cluster.

• Sunday, February 28 in Molepo and Maja at Ga-Maja Moshate.

• March 7 in Mankweng at the Oscar Mpetha Stadium at the University of Limpopo.

• March 14 in Moletjie at Moshate.

The races will include:

• 5km fun runs for all age groups.

• 10km junior race for runners 15 to 19 years.

• 10km open race for runners 20 to 39 years.

• 10km veteran’s race for runners 40 to 49 years.

• 10km master’s race for runners 50 to 59 years.

• A 10km grand master’s race for runners 60 to 70 years.

Prizes include cash and medals, while the first 400 entrants per cluster will also receive a T-shirt. All cash prize winners will be expected to produce a bar coded South-African ID or card to claim their win.

Registration for the cluster races is free and entry forms will be available at all venues on the day of the event from 06:00.
