Nationals spot for Bet-Shalom’s drummies

Bet-Shalom's drummies coach Yolandie Viljoen said the girls have worked very hard and practiced long hours to be able to qualify for the nationals.

POLOKWANE- Primary and secondary schools’ drum majorettes (drummies) demonstrated their skills during the Limpopo Majorettes and Cheerleading Association’s competition, hosted by Jabez Christian Academy at Jabez Christian Academy last Saturday.

Though they didn’t make it to a spot in the top three, Bet-Shalom qualified for the South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association’s national championship, set to take place in Durban in the first week of July.

Drummies coach Yolandie Viljoen said the girls have worked very hard and practiced long hours to be able to qualify for the nationals.

“These girls have such a passion for the sport and dedicated themselves to achieving the goals we set for them.”

Bet-Shalom Christian School drummies flag group will represent their school and province at the Samca nationals.

She emphasised that this was the girls’ best performance of the season so far. “Being a majorette is no easy task. There are many rules that you need to follow, and on top of those you have to memorise three to four routines with different formations,” she said.

She would like to thank the other coaches, including Lene Pretorius, Tanya Wannenberg, Madelein Potgieter and their assistant Samantha Pretorius, who also helped the girls with the dressing, as well as Jade Potgieter who accompanied the girls to the competition.

Bet-Shalom is currently running sponsorship campaigns to raise funds for the girls to be able to attend the national event.

Organisations, businesses or individuals that would like to assist, are welcome to come aboard.
