Mayor Marlene van Staden’s death mourned

Marlene Van Staden was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in 2022, but was recently admitted to Limpopo Mediclinic in Polokwane with viral meningitis.

MOKOPANE – The Mayor of the Modimolle-Mookgophong Municiplity, Marlene van Staden passed away this morning.

Van Staden was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in 2022, but was recently admitted to Limpopo Mediclinic in Polokwane with viral meningitis.

She was reportedly transferred to a hospital in Pretoria.

Her office confirmed her passing, stating that she stayed positive until her last hours.

National DA Leader, John Steenhuisen, was among many who empathised with Van Staden’s family on social media.

“I am absolutely devastated by the terrible news that my friend and colleague has passed away. She was a formidable woman, a servant leader, and a person of enormous compassion.”

Condolences are pouring in on social media.
