Disabled twin (23) dies trapped in house fire

The father of the deceased, Shumani Erick Mulaudzi said he still has no answers as to what happened on the day when he and his wife, Josephine, left home to go to work that morning.

LIMPOPO – The Mulaudzi family in Dzwerani-Hakhangale village is still mourning the death of their loved one, after the disabled Ngaahule Mulaudzi died in the fire when their 10-room house burned down in the early hours of May 31.

The father of the deceased, Shumani Erick Mulaudzi said he still has no answers as to what happened on the day when he and his wife, Josephine, left home to go to work that morning.

Shumani is a teacher at Sundani Primary in Ha-Davhana village, while Josephine teaches at Mahematshena Primary. “As a family, we understand that we will all die one day, but our disabled child, Ngaahule died a terrible death and was in pain.”

They thanked the Dzwerani community, who they said came in large numbers after the incident, saving some items from the fire and helping to clean up afterwards.

He added that the damage caused was estimated to cost over R2.2 million, while they have not established what might have caused the fire.

Acting Vhembe Police spokesperson, Seargent Vuledzani Dathi said the police in Vuwani outside Thohoyandou are investigating an inquest following the death of a 23-year-old disabled male.

Dathi said the police were on their daily routine patrol duties when they were alerted about a house that was on fire.

“It is alleged that Ngaahule Mulaudzi and his twin brother Akonisaho, were in the house when the fire started. When the domestic worker arrived, she discovered there was a fire and, after calling for help, locals assist her to gain entry into the house, but it was too late. The twin brother managed to run out of the house.”

The body was taken to the Elim mortuary for an autopsy and further police investigations.
