Vehicle dealership fraudster sentenced to eight years imprisonment

Dumisane Jan Mbokodo (32) used fraudulent documents to secure finance for a vehicle valued at R451 000.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Friday (March 18), sentenced Dumisane Jan Mbokodo (32) to eight years direct imprisonment for fraud.

Mbokodo applied for a vehicle finance loan with First National Bank on 27 November 2019 through a local dealership in Polokwane worth R451 000.

The application was processed, approved and the vehicle successfully delivered to the accused in Mpumalanga.

The Hawks provincial spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke said the bank became suspicious when Mbokodo failed to honour his first installments and reviewed his application.

“It was discovered that the accused used fraudulent documents to apply for vehicle finance loan and a case of fraud was opened. Although the accused tried to hide from the Hawks, he was hunted down and arrested at his home in Kanyamazane Dantjee, Mpumalanga on January 28, 2021,” he said.

Maluleke added that the vehicle has still not been recovered but has been circulated as a stolen vehicle.
