Muni: Power to be restored within seven hours

Power supply to Eduan Park has been cut off after high voltage cables were stolen this morning (February 20).

POLOKWANE – Electricians are working to restore power to Eduan Park, according to municipal spokesperson Matshidiso Mothapo.

Mothapo said in a statement that power supply to the area was cut off after high voltage cables were stolen this morning (February 20).

“Serious damage has been done to the 11KV line and it is estimated that supply will be restored by 18:00. The team on the ground will, however, try to minimise the downtime,” he explained.

Mothapo added that the municipal community safety team managed to arrest two men, who were found in possession of the cables, at the crime scene.

“The men were handed over to SAPS who proceeded to their place of residence to look for other stolen cables. Residents are advised to switch off their electrical appliances to avoid electrocution or damage to property,” he explained. 

Mothapo advised residents to report cable theft incidents to the municipality on 015 023 5458, the SAPS Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or the Eskom Crime Line on 0800 11 27 22.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed the arrests to Review.
